The die for star folding forms and closes the case neck of brass cartridge cases for use as blanks. All cases from calibre 22 Hornet to 10.3mm can be formed. The die consists of the die body, the die insert, a spacer bushing and the cap screw. The star lock is formed when the cartridge case is pressed into the die.
The case holder does not have to be in contact with the die! The cartridge case is inserted into the case holder and brought into the uppermost position with the press plunger. By screwing down the die and pressing the case, the star lock of the case is calibrated to the desired length. If the die is screwed in too far, the sleeve may be compressed. The correct position of the die is set in the press and fixed with the lock nut.
